The staff here are SO nice! Super professional, helpful, friendly, etc., etc. Oh, and the sundaes are amazing! Although I completely disagree with Jim Oberweis' politics, he knows a thing or two about dairy products. I usually like to put my money where my mouth is, but it was my nephew's graduation, so I couldn't say "no."

Great milk and even better Ice cream . A little pricey but worth every penny. When I took my nephew who's allergic to nuts they opened a brand new batch of ice cream and opened up another mixer just for him and his shake. I thought that was awfully nice all you have to do is ask!!! Their shakes and malts are terrific . I'm never disappointed!

in terms of local ice cream shops using local ingredients Columbus, OH has Jenni's Seattle, WA has Molly Moons San Francisco has too many to name.... What does Chicago have? When I moved back to the Chi I was sad to admit I don't know the foodie places to go. I'd love to hear suggestions! Oberweis isn't a local ingredients company with unique flavors but they are a local company that does not use cows injected with hormones. The ice cream is rich, creamy and old fashion goodness. The service is fantastic. Many different people came by and asked us how we were doing, not in a menacing way but in a welcome to my home, I care about you kind of way. As we left we saw a handicapped man fall on the curb. We helped him up and helped him tie his shoe and the manager came rushing out right away to see what was going on. It's a good group of people there. No big surprises, no trendy flavors, just good old fashioned ice cream served by genuine people.

Of course there is the divinely rich Oberweis ice cream and dairy treats (milk, creamer, cheese) but you can also stock up on non-dairy tasties (bacon, OJ?!) and Oberweis' new line of rich chocolate truffles too! Plus this is the only Oberweis store with a window out onto the factory floor - you can enjoy your sweet treat while you watch the workers package the ice cream or bottle the milk. I'm a big fan of see how things work and the divine dairy products served here at Oberweis are no exception!

I must admit, this is arguably the best ice cream shop in Illinois. I've tried several different flavors of their ice cream here and a few of their shakes and I have been impressed every single time. Their milk is also fantastic(I usually get the whole milk here). Although this place can be pricey(a double scoop can cost around $7) the portions are generally large and it is worth the price for the best ice cream in Illinois. I have to say my two favorites here are the coffee ice cream and the cookie dough ice cream. Perfectly churned. Their cinnamon ice cream is a close third. Also, I like the fact that they allow you to choose any ice cream flavor and they will turn it into a milk shake for you. Mmmmm...i love their chocolate peanut butter milkshake.

Specifically for the home delivery service, it's just so great and worth every penny. Best dairy products on the planet, great customer service and simple web ordering.

I just went here with my cousin and my boyfriend and there was one person there that really stood out. His name was Garrett and he had the most awesome customer service I have experienced in a long time. He had a smile on his face every single second and he was so kind. If he is not a manager yet he should be! I normally don't ever go out of my way to compliment someone but this guy deserved it. It made my night!

This location never gets my order right. When I go inside I have to have them remake it, when I go through the drive through I have them tel me what they're putting in the bag and it's still wrong. I love Oberweis but I can't keep going back to this location!

I am a HUGE Ice Cream fan, getting bigger each time I have some. ;) This Ice Cream is premium, you can tell from bite one. I love their Butter Pecan. It's amazing!!!! Also their Cinnamon (which I believe is seasonal) is great for adding a little extra bag to anything you would usually use Vanila for. Like Pie Ala Mode. It's subtle but just enough to make something good into something great. The one thing about their ice cream that makes me give a 4 star vs 5 is that I always need something to drink while eating this ice cream because of the very high sugar content. Try the milkshakes!!! They may cost more than most, but they are the real deal. Served with a little cookie straw. I am also a big fan of their milk. Their Chocolate milk is like a desert in itself. This place also scores high for me because it has a drive through window. Which is a big deal, because walking in here the floors, tables and everything else is really sticky.

It's expensive and the ice cream is just "pretty good" to me. Portions are a good size though and it's easy to share a serving here.

Best ice cream around. Period. This particular location has always been great. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, clean. The quality and presentation reminds me of what more companies need to get back to, instead of cutting corners any chance they get. Even though I wasn't around in the 1950's, it makes me feel like how things used to be. Every aspect of the sundae, shake, cone, etc.. was handcrafted, especially for you. I could tell you a list of my favorites, like the hot fudge brownie sundae.. the fresh and rich brownie, underneath the best vanilla ice cream, covered in hot fudge, with the lightest and freshest whip cream and delicate pecans. The signature cherry tops it all... but anything you get here, is going to be great. Promise.

Great ice cream, and fast service. I'm giving 3 stars due to the fact that when i got to the bottom of my ice cream i found what looked like a womans acrylic finger nail, and was totally grossed out after that. It's good ice cream, i guess just make sure a guy makes it... Lol. Foodservice workers should be wearing gloves if they have acrylic nails, or plain clean cut nails...

I bought a quart of your "chocolate chip" ice cream, I should have bought vanilla bc there were no chocolate chips in it. You should go to Oklahoma and look at Braum's Ice Cream if you want to make Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.

Best Icecream ever ! Stuff is always polite and fast..very well organized site...great offers and pricing for members or not.. Quite a selection with my favorite being espresso chip ! Inside and outside always clean...been there more than 40 times and never disappointed...Consistency_service_pricing_speed_Âlocation are just only a few of many reasons why I, my family and friends visit as often as possible and recommend to ALL !!

Sometimes in life you get what you pay for. The ice cream is excellent my favorite is butter pecan. It can get pretty busy late but your order is always prepared quickly and the staff is very friendly.

Two words for you...chocolate malt. Malty, creamy, thick and delicious. I've also had their sundaes...also quite yummy. They are not cheap, but perfection comes with a price. Take your kids inside for an old fashioned ice cream shop experience!

No better ice cream than Oberweis Can't beat their thick malts, ask for a thick one with a little extra malt powder and you'll think you're in heaven Thanks to Oberweis for all the extra pounds LOL

This is a little factory store; you can see the outsides of the milk tanks (painted like cows) and there is a glass wall in the store where you can see part of the factory floor. The ice cream is really good with a pretty good selection of flavors (enough so I always have a slight problem figuring out which flavor to get - the butterbrickle's very good) and despite the fact that the shop looks tiny on the outside there's lots of seating on the inside. I have serious issues with the politics of the guy who owns the company but I stop in occasionally anyway - the ice cream's really good. Their milk is good too. They don't accept any with bovine growth hormone in it, if that matters to you. The ice cream's really fresh and the texture is about perfect.

Rewind back to Fall 2009, when I just got back from a 5 week road trip around the Midwest/Western US--I shared with my boyfriend-to-be, the weirdest experience of the trip. Me: "So they asked me what I wanted with my steak and they all looked at me weird when i said water..." Mark B.: "Well... what did they have?" Me: "MILK. Isn't that weird?!?!" Mark B.: "....no? I drank milk with every meal when I grew up... and when I go home" Me: "......" Mark B.: "My parents still get milk delivery from Oberweis..." Fast forward to May 2010---touch down Chicago to meet the parents... and also to try the much bragged about Oberwies milk. It was alright.. and from someone who only has milk on cereal or coffee, alright is plenty good. Fast forward to Summer 2011---another visit to the boo's parents. This time, I find myself wanting and craving the milk. The smooth, light but heavy milk. Had it with breakfast. Had it for lunch. Holy shit, I might be a mid-westerner! Also had a root beer float from Oberweis and this might take a while to get used to--the ice cream was REALLY rich. And a single scoop was HUGE! I'd recommend the root beer float to share with one or maybe two people. A single bottle of root beer yield 2.5-3 floats to to the amount of ice cream. Another advice? Ditch the straw... it just gets stuck in the ice cream because it's too thick. Side note: You can see the factory from the store.. but I wish that the bottling of the milk occurring closer to the window because it looks much more interesting than staring at immobile vats.

Although I love their dairy products, this review is meant for the HOME DELIVERY SERVICE. We only had it for three months and had 5 problems. Twice the wrong items were delivered (One time they tried charging me for $90 when all I ordered was two milks!!!!) and we never got our orders THREE times!!! Every time I called customer service was NO help except one time when I spoke with a very nice man. Every other time it was just, sorry we have no explanation for that. It is a great idea, in theory, but their service is horrible!!!!!! I do NOT recommend anyone sign up!

Very friendly staff & always delicious ice cream! This place is so close to my work that I had to stop by after a long day. I had the pumpkin ice cream based on the staff's recommendation and was not disappointed. It tasted like pumpkin pie in ice cream form. Can't wait to come back again and get another delicious flavor!

I've been going to Oberweis for about 35 years now and I've never had anything better. Their award wining ice cream is simply the best. Chocolate peanut butter is a favorite. You can't go wrong with Vanilla which I top with fresh strawberries or a little Amaretto.

The best ice cream anywhere. The turtle sundaes (order it with butter pecan ice cream) are amazing. If you're a purist, go with a simple single scoop (HUGE) of chocolate on a sugar cone and you'll be happy you did. The drive through gets super crowded on summer nights but it's worth the wait and the service is very good.

MK and I decided to do Ice Cream (10/19/2007) after our so-so meal at El Taco Grande (see review in my list). Thank god for good ice cream to wash away the bad taste of a horrible dining experience. We just did the drive thru (always lengthy) and they are doing this really smart thing now where one of the kids comes out with a hand-held device and takes your order while you're waiting in the long line of cars. This not only speeds up service, but they tell how much it's going to cost so you can have your money ready. MK ordered a strawberry shake and I had a banana malt w/chocolate ice cream (it normally comes with vanilla). The shakes/malts come with whip cream and a piroline cookie. Just wonderful yummy stuff. We enjoyed and quickly forgot about a bad dinner consumed just 20 minutes prior.

I was really psyched to get fresh milk delivered to my home. Per their website, from the cow to your door in only 36-48 hours. My first delivery was OK... but then I started looking at the expiration date on the milk. For two deliveries, I was only getting milk with 8-9 days left on it. When I called to complain, they said they would let the driver know I WANTED FRESH MILK. That week, the milk had 15 days on it. So my question is... if everyone is paying a premium for fresh milk, why do only those that watch the expiration dates actually get it?
